A path across disciplines
I am an independent researcher and builder, and the founder of Synaptic Quanta. My background spans science, finance, technology and investment.
I work across technology, complex systems and institutions, particularly where established frameworks are struggling to make sense of something new.
Biography
My current focus is Synaptic Quanta, an independent ideas lab exploring how biological, artificial and organisational systems perceive, assign significance, organise and act. The work spans adaptive intelligence, consciousness, complex systems and decision-making, organised around active inquiries rather than fixed disciplines.
My recent research includes Valence Under Temporal Constraint, a published preprint proposing an Umwelt-based account of when valence may become functionally useful under ecological time pressure. Its claim about felt experience is conditional on an affective premise. I am also investigating whether complex intelligence can emerge from networks of relatively small adaptive systems.
I tend to enter unfamiliar problems, identify the underlying structure, build enough to test an idea, and expose it to evidence, criticism and practical use. Alongside research, I build systems and prototypes with software and AI tools.
That pattern has appeared throughout my career. I co-founded an early web business serving financial-services firms during the emergence of the commercial internet. I later developed a service integrating currency and interest-rate risk into large infrastructure project models.
As a Director at Citi in London, I worked with institutional clients and structured first-of-kind transactions. As Managing Partner at Capital International, I directed portfolio investments and board-level strategy, and served as acting CEO of an algorithmic trading company. Later roles included strategic-client work at Thomson Reuters, strategy at MoneXdiam and climate-related work at Everimpact.
I hold a BSc in Mathematics and Physics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an MSc in Quantum Chemistry from the University of the Witwatersrand. This scientific background and my experience with institutions both inform my current work.
My wider interests include consciousness, agency, human judgement, meaning and the relationship between biological and artificial intelligence. I write, speak publicly and am also a published poet.
I am interested in conversations with researchers, builders and others working on problems where existing categories are no longer quite sufficient.
